Update: December 31, 2009
We sent out our LAST book today, just in time for the end of this fundraiser! We knew you guys would come through, and we're so very thankful for all your donations and support. Happy New Year!
Living in the Pacific Northwest, we are fortunate to have such a spectacular variety of wild places to explore. Over half of Washington state is still densely forested and remarkably wild. It’s no wonder we’re called the Evergreen State! Towering old growth forests, sandy desert lakes, and deep river gorges. Volcanoes, glaciers, islands and ocean beaches are all with in a couple hours drive from Seattle.
Preserving these natural treasures - while still allowing public access - would be nearly impossible if not for a myriad of trails, backcountry bridges and remote wilderness camps. The Washington Trails Association is a non-profit group that assembles volunteer trail crews to build and maintain trails to some of the region’s most remote and scenic places. Their continuing efforts have made our excursions possible, and thus we’ve selected them as an organization deserving of our support.
Our region is also home to some of the nations most endangered species, like the Canadian Lynx and Mountain Caribou. Conservation Northwest (another non-profit organization) works with the public in protecting these amazing animals and their habitats. Their work has saved old growth forests from logging and development, as well as helped to reintroduce a native weasel, the Fisher, to the Olympic Peninsula. Some of their current efforts include the protection and management of the first Wolf Pack in Washington in over 70 years, and raising funds for the Interstate-90 Wildlife Bridges. For these reasons Conservation Northwest is the second organization we’ve chosen to support.
Our new book, ScenicBoys: The Photography of Garet & Dusty will be our gift to those who can help us raise money for these two non-profit organizations, and also to help fund the forth season of ScenicBoys. All proceeds will be split three ways - a third to The Washington Trails Association, a third to Conservation Northwest, and a third will go toward our 2010 adventures.
